Totally superficial. Rushed through and carelessly articulated. Bach never took such an approach. A waste of time and energy.

Doeselaar does it again. He produced a fantastic interpretation of BWV 542 (fantasia and fugue in G minor) and probably did not want to interfere with Havinga's BWV 543. May he be hereby thanked! An interesting piece of trivia about BWV 546: the prelude was composed after the fugue.

I started listening to this thinking I'd hear too many ornaments. While there are plenty of ornaments that's not what's disturbing me about this video. He's playing everything detache. It sounds like he's just had a huge argument with a spouse and is playing like an angry gorilla just to piss somebody off. I've never heard Koopman play like this before so I know it's not his usual way. Maybe he was jet lagged from the flight to Asia.? Check out anything by organist Richard McVeigh for a different and more elegant approach to this music.

Herr Koopman hat keinerlei Gefühl für Bach ! Deshalb gehört er für mich nicht zu den großen Bachinterpreten. Anstelle von Technik und Eilgkeit zählen andere Maßstäbe. Er hätte sich etwas von Herrn Walcha abschauen können! Ich wundere mich nur, warum gerade er für die Wahrung des Bach - Erbes ausgesucht wurde.

Wenn es in der Welt der Menschen ein Bedürfnis nach Bestrafung und Vergeltung gibt, mögen sie mit Ruhe und Gelassenheit geschehen 🌐

Ton Koopman alias the crazy organist...

Listened to J.S Bach's music for 3 years now, but now it will be my first time listening to the art of the fugue

The Passacalgia is one of the most complete master peaces of Bach - this is an interesting interpretation by Ton Koopman. In Tokyo - Organ is Swiss - Kuhn in Männedorf. I heard Ton Koopman a lot - this peace for example in Leipzig at the Gewandhaus - a bit different than here. I played this piece as well - you need to get away from thingking to play - it‘s amazing. Bach is forever - he is THE Basis for all classic music! 😊

There are a tiny few who are great at improvising on a theme. Among those, an even tinier few have the chops to remember their improvisations long enough to write them down. Among that vanishingly tiny number of geniuses, Bach is preeminent! A wonderful performance.

Great! My simple mind can understand this because there is an order of things and weights... Just beautiful. This, I think is a nice example of how the music actually gradually gets the listener to understand it, from beginning with quite easy form to the most difficult and stunning part of it, so one actully has a feeling of relief and fulfillment when it gets to the end. And maybe a feeling of learning something new...

Bach, the master of dubstep. He took the theme, played on the pedal trombone/pousane, double trumpet or contra bombarde. How well he took the main theme and improvised on it, is shere genius
